Hargrave Welcomes New Director of Academic Learning Center

Press Release for August 11, 2017

Jacqueline Lavoie Scolpini is the new Director of the Academic Learning Center. She attended Hargrave from 7th grade until her senior year as a day student. As a 2003 graduate, she ended her time at Hargrave as the Pipe Major for the Highlanders. She graduated from Longwood University with a B.S. in Liberal Studies and a minor in psychology. In 2007, she accepted a job at Dan River High School as a special education teacher. During this time, she received her Masters of Teaching ,specializing in Special Education. At Dan River she co-taught all subject areas and conducted academic support classes.
While working at Dan River, she met her husband and was married at the Cheathem Chapel in 2010. She has 3 children: one son and two daughters. They are a very sports-oriented family, which takes up most of their time. Jacqueline is excited to come back to her roots at Hargrave and to be able to give back. She loves to help students reach their full potential and show them that there are many positive paths to reach a goal.
We look forward to having Mrs. Scolpini as the director to be able to assist students in a multicultural learning environment. She will be responsible for credit recovery programs, helping students with differential learning styles, and running a number of programs. Her new office is found in the library where she has reorganized the system into the Academic Learning Center. In the learning center, students will find a quiet place to study and also utilize the new Makerspace area. We welcome her to campus.
