Of the 60 kids that tried out for the Under-18 Egyptian National soccer team, Hargrave’s own Youssef Abouzied (Cairo, Egypt) earned a spot. Abouzied, son of Taher Abouzied,who is now the Minister of State for Sports for Egypt was also on a national team which he helped them win the 1986 African Cup of Nations.
“I know for his family this is a very big deal with his father’s playing history and Youssef wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps of Egyptian soccer,” stated Head Coach Jeremy Eubank. This past season was Abouzied’s first year at Hargrave where scored 19 goals and added five assists to help the Tigers to a 15-3-1 overall record.
