Welcome: Who is a Hargrave Cadet?

Dear Students, Parents and Families,

Welcome to Hargrave!

BroomeYou’ve selected a school with a rich tradition in academic, athletic and character development success. Hargrave Military Academy is a definitive school that holds high standards and raises expectations in a very unique boarding school environment.

Who is a Hargrave Cadet? Hargrave Cadets routinely represent over half of the 50 United States, with five to ten more states thrown in for good measure. A Hargrave Cadet comes from every continent in almost every major culture on Earth, including those from North America, South America, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. They are racially and culturally diverse, to include African-Americans, Asian-Americans , European-Americans, and Middle-Eastern-Americans both from farms and big cities. They can be extremely wealthy or attending on a Hargrave scholarship.

Routinely, a potential Hargrave Cadet seeks to ‘change the game’ of his current educational setting. He opts for Hargrave as a school of opportunity to learn peer leadership; build stronger SAT/ACT scores; be challenged in the classroom; and create a solid history of academic success. Our Cadets seek challenges on the athletic fields and desire opportunities for personal growth in service activities, whether that service is to their peers or in a larger public setting.

A Hargrave Cadet learns about structure, focus and character development. They understand the importance of a daily routine in building their educational success, and in securing college acceptance for their future. They learn the value of intangibles such as honor, integrity and respect. They build a moral spine that serves them throughout their lives. A Cadet appreciates a spiritual underpinning as a key to their growth as young men of character.

A Hargrave Cadet attends middle school grades 7, 8 and 9; high school grades 10, 11 and 12; and one Post-Graduate or prep year. They typically are good kids facing less than ideal academic or social environments. Prior to joining Hargrave, they normally are not as focused on a college goal or thinking in terms of their future. They have not experienced leadership in a meaningful way. The words ‘structure’ and ‘discipline’ are purely academic terms.

Basically, a Hargrave Cadet new to the Academy is a young man limited by opportunity.

Tap your young man’s undeveloped potential. Hargrave has something to offer at every grade, academic development and maturity level!

Hargrave is an exciting, rewarding school for young men in an exciting, challenging time in their lives. Give them a great educational and character development experience. Give them Hargrave.
