LTC Harold Hofer, Commandant, at 434-432-2582.
When Cadets are not engaged in either academics or sports, Hargrave's TAC Officers in the military department ensure that they remain on task. Building personal character, self-discipline, leadership skills and self-esteem in each Cadet is the focus of Hargrave's
military life.
The Academy's rules and regulations
are designed to help a Cadet mature. One of the most
important lessons Hargrave teaches is adherence to
moral and behavioral standards. And, that a violation
of these standards has consequences. This is very
important for each Cadet's personal development
and for their future success later in life.
Cadets also
play an important role with each other. Normal student
interaction among the Corps of Cadets produces leaders.
At Hargrave, these raw leadership aptitudes are directly
nurtured and developed by the military department
with the assignment of rank and responsibilities.
It is also taught academically with Hargrave's
General Colin Powell Center for Leadership and Ethics.
Hargrave provides a one-two punch in an area where
most school talk, but few actually put into practice.
Almost all Hargrave graduates are practiced leaders.
Cadets who
become directly involved with Hargrave, take responsibility
and become engaged with their fellow Cadets find themselves
ahead of their peers after graduation. For close to
100 years, Hargrave has produced many individuals
who return to campus thanking the Academy for the
leadership and self-discipline it instilled within
them.
