Cadet Zach King passed his Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Eagle Board of Review on Friday, November 11, 2011. A Scout Board of Review consists of an interview by adults and Scoutmasters that work directly with the young men. Cadet King completed this achievement as a member of BSA Troop 68.

The Boy Scouts of America National Council states that a Boy Scout “must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills” to receive the award. Some of the requirements also include completing twenty-one merit badges, badges which demonstrate mastery of certain Scoutcraft skills which include First Aid, Communications, Citizenship in the Nation, Environmental Science and Personal Fitness, in addition to completing a long term community service project. Only about 5% of all Boy Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout given all of the rigorous requirements that must be completed to earn the rank.

Cadet King’s Eagle Scout included the construction a large wood shed up near Hargrave’s upper fire pit. The Academy’s upper fire pit is used by Scouts, the Academy’s annual Junior Retreat and other groups needing to build a bonfire with dry wood.

Cadet King’s Board of Review consisted of CPT Ryan Meyer von Bremen (Troop 68 Scoutmaster), Maj. Bill Leftwich, USMC (Ret.) and CPT Aaron Book. All three gentlemen reside in Chatham, Virginia.

Cadet King is a sophomore at Hargrave. He is the son of Neile and Julie King of Cary, North Carolina.
