The General Douglas MacArthur Foundation presents the MacArthur Cadet Awards in recognition of outstanding cadets within the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States. The MacArthur Award is presented annually to seniors at these military schools. The award is designed to encourage cadets to emulate the leadership qualities shown by General Douglas MacArthur, as a student at West Texas Military Institute and at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Approximately 40 schools are authorized to provide the award to its top cadet each year.
Presenting the award was Brigadier General Don Broome, Jr. USA (Ret.), president of Hargrave Military Academy.
Cadet Jonas serves as the Cadet Battalion Commander of the Hargrave Corps of Cadets and holds the rank of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel. He is the highest ranking Cadet officer in the Academy. As Battalion Commander, he provides overall cadet leadership to his fellow Cadets and peers, ranging in grades 7-12 and one Post-Graduate year. Jonas is also the primary liaison between faculty and staff with the Corps. He performs these duties while maintaining a full academic load and athletic pursuits.
Cadet Jonas has been a member of Hargrave’s Corps of Cadets since the 7th grade (first arriving on campus as a rising 7th grade student during Hargrave’s Summer School and Camp), and has remained a very active member of the Corps of Cadets throughout his tenure. He has participated in numerous sports, including lacrosse, soccer and swimming. He has been a member of the Academy’s Color Guard and in Hargrave’s Boy Scouts – Troop 68. He is a member of the French and Spanish Clubs, and is currently the National Beta Club president for the school. He is currently accepted to Coastal Carolina University, High Point University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Jonas plans to attend High Point University in the fall. He is the son of Roberto Jonas (deceased as of September 14, 2011) and Joan Keston of Raleigh, North Carolina.
