'Sound Body'
Mens Sana In Corpore Sano. ‘A Sound Mind in a Sound Body’ is the Academy motto. And, Hargrave certainly doesn’t rest on our Academic laurels. All Cadets are required to be engaged in some form of formal physical activity. For most Cadets, it is one or more of Hargrave’s outstanding sports programs. It is their choice, but when Cadets can’t decide they join intramurals.
Intramurals is actually fun, but is does involve a workout. Healthy attitudes towards personal fitness and health drive the intramural program. Basic calisthenics, stretching and running are a major part of the intramural practice routine. Cadets also learn the techniques to master these skills safely and effectively.
There are also Company wide competitions that involve several physical challenges for the entire Corps of Cadets. Events can include timed sit-ups, chin-ups, push-ups, shuttles and the Corps favorite, Tug-of-War.
