The Hargrave Parent Council


	The Hargrave Parent Council is a very active and involved group supporting Cadets, faculty and staff in a common mission.

Since its inception in 1987, open communication among parents, the faculty and the Academy administration continues to be one of the main goals of the Hargrave Parent Council. Each member of the Council serves as a point of contact for parents who have questions, concerns or suggestions about any aspect of Hargrave Cadet life.

Through the years, the Council has under taken increasing responsibilities and activities. In 1993 the Council began hosting an annual Faculty & Staff appreciation Dinner in the spring, a wonderful opportunity to express gratitude to those who shape the lives of our Cadets. It is involved in various activities around campus, such as beautification and landscaping projects, offering refreshments in Camden Hall, providing Chapel decorations for Hanging of the Greens at Christmas, hosting a Hospitality Table for parents at the Fall Parent’s Weekend and Military Ball Weekend and serving as ad hoc guides around campus. The Council contributes to the Cadets’ Hargrave experience by supporting International Day, delivering Exam Treat Bags, and making monetary gifts to the academic department and the Chapel.

The Council does fundraising for its projects. During 2006, the Council introduced a silent auction during Parent’s Weekend, which has been very successful. This year we are planning to introduce an on-line auction and raffle for the spring semester. We also provide an opportunity for parents to contribute “in memory of / in honor of” someone special for the Hanging of the Greens Christmas service held on a Sunday in December.

The contribution of every parent, no matter how small, is appreciated in these efforts. Together we can make a positive difference on campus for the benefit of the entire Academy.
