Military Life
for Grades 7-9
Contact: MSgt. Greg Beauvais, Commandant – Center for Integrated Studies, at 434-432-2584.
When 7th, 8th and 9th grade Cadets are not engaged in either academics or sports, Hargrave's Commandant for the Center for Integrated Studies (CIS) program ensures that they remain on task. Building personal character, self-discipline, leadership skills and self-esteem in each Cadet is the focus of Hargrave's military life.
The Academy's rules and regulations are designed to help Cadets mature. One of the most important lessons Hargrave teaches is adherence to moral and behavioral standards. And, that a violation of these standards has consequences. This is very important for each Cadet's personal development and for their future success later in high school, as well as in life.
Cadets also play an important role with each other. Normal student interaction at this age enhances development of these young men. Cadets learn at lot about themselves as followers as well as leaders in a military structure.
Leadership is also taught academically through Hargrave's General Colin Powell Center for Leadership and Ethics as an academic orbital within the 7th-9th grade CIS program. The leadership learned at this level enables the students to be better prepared for high school through a more mature outlook and typically a sharper focus.
Cadets who become directly involved with Hargrave, take responsibility and become engaged with their fellow Cadets find themselves ahead of their peers after their Hargrave graduation. For 100 years, Hargrave has produced many individuals who return to campus thanking the Academy for the leadership and self-discipline it instilled within them. |
