The Hargrave Parent Council


	The Parent Council supports its ongoing efforts through donations and fun events like the basket auction.

Since its inception in 1987, open communication among parents, the faculty, and the Academy administration continues to be one of the main goals of the Hargrave Parent Council. Each member of the Council serves as a point of contact for parents who have questions, concerns or suggestions about any aspect of Hargrave Cadet life.

Through the years, however, the Council has taken on more responsibilities. In 1993 the Council began hosting an annual Faculty & Staff Appreciation Dinner in the spring, a wonderful opportunity to express gratitude to those who shape the lives of our Cadets. In fact, the majority of our budget is directed toward this one event.

The Council also lends its help during special occasions on campus by decorating common areas, offering refreshments in Camden Hall, providing seasonal arrangements for Hanging of the Greens at Christmas and serving as ad hoc guides around campus. In preparation for Hargrave’s Centennial celebrations in 2009-2010, the Council is currently making improvements in the landscape around some key buildings on campus.

The Council does fundraise for its projects. During 2006, the Council introduced a silent auction of gift baskets during Parent's Weekend, which was very successful. The silent auction is so popular, that it is held twice per year at Parent's Weekend and on Mother's Day. Parents will also have the opportunity to contribute "in memory of /in honor of" someone special for the Hanging of the Greens Christmas service the first Sunday in December.

The contribution of every parent, no matter how small, is appreciated in these efforts. Together we can make a positive difference on campus for the benefit of the entire Academy.
