March to a Beat

A college prep military school is not complete without its band. Hargrave’s Band and Music program hits it stride our more mature musicians in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades. Students at these grades can participate in Hargrave’s marching band, the Highlanders, performance band, quartets and other smaller group opportunities.
Our successful marching band is the strength of the program. It has had and maintains a lot of success over the years. Travel and other opportunities to perform at Hargrave military parades, athletic games and chapel services provide a robust series of events for each student.
Most Band members reside in their own company, Band Company, with other student musicians. Command structure is the same as Hargrave’s other companies, but the arrangement permits better coordination and practice time for the participating Cadets.
Hargrave’s Highlanders are the school’s bagpiping corps. Wearing traditional kilts and playing authentic bagpipes and drums, this group is a hit whenever they play. There is also opportunity for earning a prestigious piping award every year, which typically provides a brand new set of bagpipes to the winner.
Additionally, there is ample opportunity for students to work on their music during lab and Individual Instruction Time, a time where practice makes a better student and a stronger player in a chosen instrument.
