Welcome
The
Onishi-Davenport Aquatic Center, Hargrave's natatorium,
first opened July 1995. Since that time, Hargrave
has hosted dozens of major swimming competitions,
taught hundreds of people swimming and has provided
a major indoor recreation venue for both Cadets and
Chatham citizens alike.
Christened
the Onishi-Davenport Aquatic Center (ODAC) after benefactors
Mrs. Hayaco Onishi-Cook and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Davenport,
the center is considered one of the top prep school
natatoriums in the nation. Onishi-Davenport immediately
became one of the more important swimming venues the
region, hosting YMCA, high school, USA Swimming and
even college championship meets.
Onishi-Davenport’s
American Red Cross (ARC) courses
and an USA Swimming program provide important aquatic
benefits to both Hargrave and the local community.
Continuing a great Hargrave tradition, Hargrave’s
ARC programs teach swimming, lifesaving, CPR and other
certified aquatic skills to both the Cadets and the
community, a legacy started with Hargrave’s
original outdoor pool.
Hargrave’s
USA Swimming program, known as Hargrave Aquatics, builds on the skills taught by ARC. Hargrave
Aquatics provides the competitive aspect to Onishi-Davenport.
Cadets engage in a challenging,
healthy and productive activity designed for the competitive
spirit.
