The weather could not have been more appropriate for our recent open weekend. The cadets needed some warm outdoor time. Hargrave’s JV and Varsity basketball teams lost to Covenant Friday evening. However, the varsity earned a shot at the conference tournament that begins on Tuesday. HMA’s wrestlers went to Richmond for the state championship. John Kneppler placed 6th and Jack Neblett won a fourth place earning him an invitation to the National Championships. The swim team traveled to Manassas Virginia to participate in the state championship tournament. The relay team earned a ninth place and Cadet Charles Totten achieved a personal best in the Butterfly and qualified for “Nationals.” Go Charles!
Cadets that elected to remain on campus this weekend had the opportunity to attend a professional NBA game in Charlotte NC. In addition several students went on a movie trip to Danville. This was the first weekend for our House Mother to join the CIS students. Mrs. Shelton arrived armed with homemade cookies which were a big hit. I visited her Sunday afternoon and she said many cadets have visited her room to get to know her.
On Thursday cadets will travel to Cambridge, MA to participate in the Harvard Model Congress. Students have worked very hard to prepare for this outstanding opportunity. I am sure they will have great stories when they return. HMA’s Scout troop is considering a hiking trip on the “AT” (Appalachian Trail). We have to determine the condition of the hiking trails because a lot of the recent snow and ice remains in shaded areas. Also this week Hargrave’s Band will travel to Randolph Macon Academy to participate in a military band competition.
Hargrave’s forth marking period ends this Friday. Also on Friday and Saturday Hargrave will host the First Piedmont Military Basketball Tournament. Hargrave’s undefeated PG team will play teams from Fishburne, Massanutten, and Fork Union.

According to Mr. (or Dr?) Hupp, the period in question would be preceded by "fourth", would it not? From here in Martinsville, if I were to raise my window and lean outwardly toward Chatham, I could just barely hear the sonic boom of that ebony wood walking stick as its velocity approaches Mach 3.2 at the moment it crashes on top of the desk of that poor unsuspecting Cadet who dropped a "u" and never picked it up.
Seriously though, may drive up and check out the basketball. Like to see FUMA get their collective what-evers kicked!
Lot going on up there right now. I like this Blog.
Thanks, Colonel

Total the dollar amount of the base tuition for the freshman year of each cadet in a given graduating class that goes on to enroll in an undergraduate institution, private or public including the service academies. Include lab fees but not room and board. Since many graduating cadets have received appointments, the Departments of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard could quite possibly provide an amount for their respective academies.
Now total the dollar amount of all first year scholarships (100% for those cadets holding an appointment to a service academy) earned by and awarded to that class.
My question. What is the percentage of the base tuition that is paid for by scholarships? This calculation is NOT to include student loans or grants from the federal or state governments. It is to include only those scholarships based solely on academic and/or athletic performance.
I have a strong feeling the percentage for a given Hargrave graduating class would far exceed the national average for combined public and private secondary institutions. I also have a strong feeling that the percentage would fair VERY well when compared to private secondary schools alone.

It is a great post in knowing about the information of the weekend. It also helps me a lot of information about the cadets. That is always special in knowing it. That gives the unique ideas for anyone in making it.
The place is really giving the appropriate information for me in getting the required details in a quick manner. That is the reason for the people in showing the nice intent in a possible manner.
It would give the better chance for the people in showing the better intent easily.
Most of them are showing their better intent in desiring the weather to appear as normal. It is not appearing in this way for the people to show their intent in academy purposes easily.
It is an excellent post in knowing about the good details.
