The Athlete of the Month programs recognizes outstanding Hargrave athletes for their contributions on the field.
Varsity - September 2009
Cadet Brandon Tully, son of Ken and Gail Tully of Ashburn, Virginia, has been named the Varsity Athlete of the Month for September at Hargrave Military Academy. This award was earned through game performance, attitude, and effort. It is a reflection of the dedication, reliability, and fortitude necessary to become an outstanding athlete and, more importantly, a Whole Person.
In the words of Coach Mike Broomell, “Brandon is a senior in his second year at Hargrave, participating in his first Cross Country season at HMA. He has placed first overall in every meet except one, and in that one, he placed second. Not only has he been a consistent winner, but he also rarely sees the backs of his opponents, leading most of the races from the opening gun. He has a low time on a 3.2 mile course of 18:03. He is a hard worker in practice, and this effort is reflected in his success.”
Junior Varsity - September 2009
Cadet Spencer King, son of Neile and Julie King of Cary, North Carolina, has been named the Junior Varsity Athlete of the Month for September at Hargrave Military Academy. This award was earned through game performance, attitude, and effort. It is a reflection of the dedication, reliability, and fortitude necessary to become an outstanding athlete and, more importantly, a Whole Person.
Coach Frank Martin stated, “Spencer is one of two Co-Captains for the JV soccer team and is the starting Right Wing. He is an aggressive player who likes the game of soccer and enjoys winning soccer games. He has a can-do attitude and leads by example. He is a strong communicator on the field, realizing the importance of a team effort. Spencer is a strong athlete and takes his leadership position, both on and off the field, seriously.” |
