The Athlete of the Month programs recognizes outstanding Hargrave athletes for their contributions on the field.

Varsity – November 2009
Cadet David Backman, son of Dave and Amy Backman of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, has been named the Varsity Athlete of the Month for November 2009. This award was earned through game performance, attitude and effort. It is a reflection of the dedication, reliability and fortitude necessary to become an outstanding athlete and, more importantly, a Whole Person.

Coach Greg Beauvais, Hargrave’s Rifle Team coach, said, “David Backman led the rifle team to an undefeated season. Along the way, he proved to be the top shooter in the state as he garnered many individual awards. His leadership was instrumental to the success of the team as a whole.”

Junior Varsity – November 2009
Cadet Dwayne Williams, son of Richard and Sabrina Williams of Fredricksburg, Virginia, has been named the Junior Varsity Athlete of the Month for November 2009. This award was earned through game performance attitude, and effort. It is a reflection of the dedication, reliability and fortitude necessary to become an outstanding athlete and, more importantly, a Whole Person.

Cross Country Coach Mike Broomell said, “Dwayne is a seventh grader who runs on the varsity team, but cannot score which can be frustrating. He has placed in the top five for Hargrave in every race he has run. In the four developmental races, he has placed first. In the varsity meets at Miller and Fishburne he was recognized for his athletic prowess.”
