Moving Forward
The next major initiative for Hargrave is a new dining hall and student center. This new facility has been named the John D. Smith, III, '56 Student Center. While considered state of the art when constructed in 1950, the current dining facility is in need of some major sub-surface repairs and is inadequate for our growing enrollment each year. Due to space constraints the current facility requires the Corps of Cadets to eat at two different times during the lunch period. The current facility has a limited seating capacity of 350 while the new dining hall will seat 600. This new facility will not only offer increased capacity, but will also ensure increased operating efficiency through the utilization of modern equipment in all areas of operation.
The new facility will also include two game rooms and renovated offices for the Military Department, along with a new gift shop, snack bar, and quartermaster area. With the construction of access to these services, cadets will be able to access the facilities within a more streamlined environment.
This $4.4 million dollar project has been approved by the Board of Trustees and is absolutely critical to the Academy’s success in the 21st Century. Please contact the Advancement Office for more details.
Corporate
Matching Gifts
Many companies have a matching gift program. During
the 2002-2003 giving year, we received over $24,000
in corporate matching gifts! Please consult with your
employer to determine matching gift opportunities.
Endowment
Simply put,
the endowment is the Academy’s savings account
– its accumulated capital gains then become
the optimal source of return that allows us to optimize
our programs. Most important, interest from the endowment
is the most desirable source of funding for supporting
our most important asset – the intellectual
capital that comes with the very best cadets and the
very best instructors.
Gifts-In-Kind
Gifts-in-kind
are a valuable resource to the Academy that can make
a difference in instructional resources, facilities
and activities. If you have a special gift-in-kind
to donate to Hargrave, please contact the Development
Office to facilitate acceptance of your gift.
Planned
Giving
Planned gifts to the Academy are investments
in the future. Through your bequests, charitable trusts
and gift annuities, Hargrave is able to ensure that
tomorrow’s cadets have the resources needed
to continue the Academy’s nearly one-hundred
year tradition of leadership, honor, character and
merit.
The
Heritage Society
When you make a planned gift to Hargrave,
you are welcomed into the Heritage Society. The Heritage
Society is the recognition society for individuals
who make HMA a part of their estate plan.
Bequests
A properly planned gift can be one
of the most rewarding experiences of our life! Through
a simple bequest, you may be able to make a much more
significant gift that will create a legacy and have
a lasting impact on the cadets, faculty and programs
at Hargrave. Your bequest will leave a legacy that
will make a difference for many generations to come.
A bequest
is deductible for federal estate tax purposes, and
there is no limit on the amount of the estate tax
charitable deduction. In addition, bequests generally
are not subject to state inheritance or estate taxes.
In a large estate, the savings can be more than HALF
the value of the bequest.
