Directions to Hargrave

Major Routes

There are several ways to get to Hargrave Military Academy. However, there is only one major route, US Route 29. This is a north/south road. Hargrave Military Academy is located in Chatham, Virginia, which is between the Virginia cities of Danville (20 miles to the south) and Lynchburg (40 miles to the north) on Route 29.

For Arrival to Chatham

If you are traveling to Chatham from the north:
Take the second Chatham exit off of Route 29 (this will be road 685). Turn right off the ramp and follow the road to Main Street. Cross Main Street to Military Drive, which is straight ahead. Remain on Military Drive until you arrive at the heart of the Academy, located at the Camden Administration building. This is a large building with four two-story columns on a porch. Parking is reserved for you in the front.

If you are traveling to Chatham from the south:
Take the first Chatham exit on Rt. 29 (approximately 1 mile past the intersection at Tightsqueeze Plaza). This ramp merges into South Main Street. Once you travel past the downtown area, look for Watson Memorial Methodist Church on your left. Once past this church, take your first left onto Hargrave Blvd. (It will be a hard left since it is located on the inside of a curve.) Follow Hargrave Boulevard to Hargrave’s driveway. Then, follow the driveway to the Camden Administration building. This is a large building with four two-story columns on a porch. Parking is reserved for you in the front.

If you are traveling to Chatham from the east or west:
Travelers from the east or west will arrive on Route 57. This is either Callands Road, which goes between Chatham and Martinsville, or Halifax Road, which goes between Chatham and Halifax. Travelers from either direction will come out onto South Main Street Turn north. (That is a left turn from the west or a right turn from the east.) Once past this church, take your first left onto Hargrave Blvd. (It will be a hard left since it is located on the inside of a curve.) Follow Hargrave Boulevard to Hargrave’s driveway. Then, follow the driveway to the Camden Administration building. This is a large building with four two-story columns on a porch. Parking is reserved for you in the front.
