COL Mike Cloy, USA (Ret.)

CloyCOL Mike Cloy, USA (Ret.) was a career infantry officer for 27 years, and commanded units from company through the brigade level in combat operations to include Desert Shield/Storm and Iraqi Freedom in Iraq as well as a Stability and Support Operation Joint Guardian in Kosovo. He was the Chief of Staff of U.S. Army Cadet Command in his last active duty assignment.

COL Cloy is a 1982 (Distinguished Military Student) of the University of Southern Mississippi where he earned a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science in Education. Later, he earned a Master of Science in Strategy form the U.S. Army War College and an Educational Specialist Degree in Mental Health Practices in Schools from the University of Missouri.

His military education includes: The Infantry Officer Basic Course; Armor Officer Advanced Course; Special Forces Qualification Course; Ranger School; Airborne and Pathfinder School; Command and General Staff College, Armed Forces Staff College and the Army War College.

Previously the Commandant and Senior U.S. Army JROTC Instructor at the Military and Global Leadership Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, COL Cloy joined Hargrave in the summer of 2012.

“I am big into the developmental aspects of growing young men.” stated COL Cloy. Further, he is interested in taking the positive approach into shaping a Cadet into an outstanding young man.

“A positive approach focuses on a child’s gifts and attributes and deliberately underwrites failure so positive lessons about self and well-being can be learned,” said COL Cloy. His focus is on four outcomes for each Cadet: Confidence; Character; Connection; and Competence. A focus on each area will provide each young man a good shot at success.

Both COL Cloy and his wife Debbie have a wealth of educational experience in support of Hargrave. She is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship Certified Riding Instructor. He is currently the Commandant and Senior Army JROTC Instructor at the Military and Global Leadership Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Military and Global Leadership Academy is a public charter high school. The couple have two grown children, Melanie and Mason.
