Strengthening
Student Transcripts

Walter Sullivan,
Academic Dean, at 434-432-2576.
Academic enhancement is the focus for every Post-Graduate student. While many of our Post-graduate students
seek to enhance their athletic ability through our
basketball, football or swimming programs, they primarily pursue the opportunity to improve their academic prep
for college and strengthen their SAT scores to meet
new, stringent NCAA requirements*. (Review the NCAA Freshman-Eligibility Standards Quick Reference Sheet) Other Post-Graduates
attend for academic reasons alone.
It is important to note that not all
Post-Graduates fit nicely into one category. The Academic
Dean will work carefully with each family to determine
the personal goals of each Post-Graduate student and design
an academic schedule to meet those goals.
*Although recent legal challenges
have been made concerning the NCAA regulations, all
of the regulations still apply and a student cannot
enter Division I athletics unless he or she meets
the minimum requirements with SAT scores and GPA.
Advanced
Academic Studies
When we enroll Academic Post-Graduate
students at Hargrave, they typically are students who
are heading to one of the U.S. service academies or preparing themselves for a better college
or university. A typical curriculum for these students
will include calculus, advanced algebra, Critical
Reading and Writing,
college chemistry and Physics. These college-level courses reinforce prior course work and provide rigorous academic preparation for these students.

Enhancement
Other students may not want to enter
an honors-type college program, but need to strengthen
their high school transcript in order to gain admission
to certain colleges or universities. For these students,
Hargrave provides ample opportunity for the student
to bring his work to a higher level. Our How to Study
Program and our SAT preparation program are but two
of the standard methods that we help students achieve
this goal.
United
States Naval Academy Foundation Cadets
For many years Hargrave has
had a working relationship with the United States
Naval Academy Foundation. Through this relationship,
U.S. Naval Academy prep students use a Hargrave Post-Graduate
program geared specifically for them. The program
typically includes Critical Reading and Writing, advanced
reading, college chemistry, advanced algebra, calculus,
physical conditioning and Physics.
