Outstanding
Support
As
Hargrave implements its “Enhanced Learning Through
Technology” program, access to technology resources
has been expanded through wireless computer networks
in every class and study room on campus. With the
Academy’s laptop computers, Cadets have expanded
availability to class material, learning resources
and their instructors at any time, from any place
on campus.
Hargrave has recently (2003, 2001)
completed two major projects that have provided significant
upgrades to the Academy’s academic space. In
the last few years, the Academy has witnessed the
addition of four new state-of-the-art laboratory areas,
a new art studio, a distance learning center, a leadership
center and a greatly expanded video production classroom.
A completely refurbished 200+ seat
auditorium, featuring the latest in educational video
technology, has provided an ideal, modern setting for visiting
guest lectures, artists and drama productions. Six
new standard classrooms have been added and five classrooms
have been completely refurbished.
Cadet technology resources include
a personal laptop computer for every high school student, access to extensive research and developmental software programs, fully integrated SAT/ACT development at each grade level, an SAT
prep program, and a variety of computer-based teaching
applications in mathematics, English and psychology. A darkroom
is also available to students who wish to learn black-and-white
photography.
Hargrave's library retains
more than 10,000 volumes and subscribes to over fifty
newspapers and periodicals all while incorporating
a greater degree of electronic media. Back issues
of 120 journals and magazines are available either
on online or on microfiche. There are also three online
databases, which include a wealth of reference books,
periodicals, newspapers and dictionaries. Two complete
online encyclopedias, the Encyclopedia Britannica
and Worldbook, are also available.
