The Athlete of the Month programs recognizes outstanding Hargrave athletes for their contributions on the field.

Varsity - October 2009

Cadet Danny Smith, son of Daniel and Beverly Smith of Goldsboro, North Carolina, has been named the Varsity Athlete of the Month for September at Hargrave Military Academy. This award was earned through game performance, attitude, and effort. It is a reflection of the dedication, reliability, and fortitude necessary to become an outstanding athlete and, more importantly, a Whole Person.

"In the month of October Danny Smith has led the football team in overall yardage and touchdowns scored. Over a three game span this included over 600 yards of offense and six touchdowns, including one game where he had a career day of 242 yards on 18 carries and four touchdowns," said Head Football Coach David Tavenner. "In each game played, Danny earned over 100 all purpose yards. Danny has continually been an outstanding performer in his contests for the varsity football team and a true asset to his teammates. He has also found ways to come back from injuries and compete with his teammates, showing perseverance and a gritty sense of determination."

Junior Varsity - October 2009

Cadet Walter Morrisette, son of Eric and Renee Morrisette of Fairfax, Virginia, has been named the Junior Varsity Athlete of the Month for September at Hargrave Military Academy. This award was earned through game performance, attitude, and effort. It is a reflection of the dedication, reliability, and fortitude necessary to become an outstanding athlete and, more importantly, a Whole Person.

Coach Richard Anderson said, “Walter threw for over 150 yards this month and gained an equal amount on the ground. He is a team captain with excellent leadership and work ethic. Walter has defiantly earned the respect of his coaches and teammates and was selected to move up to the Varsity level for the remainder of the season.”
